Filing the VAT return
Every other month the VAT return is due. For most businesses that means pulling numbers from one place, typing them into Altinn somewhere else, and hoping nothing slipped along the way. In Tredco you do the whole filing in one place: the return is built from the accounting you have already posted, it is validated with the Tax Administration, and it is submitted to Altinn — without you copying a single figure yourself.
The return is built from your books
You do not re-enter the VAT return. If you have approved the entries through the term, the basis is already there: every transaction carries the right VAT code, and Tredco gathers them into the lines the return needs. You pick Term and Year, and the workspace shows the basis for exactly that period — output VAT, deductible input VAT, and what comes out as Amount due or Refund.
If there is no turnover to report for the term, Tredco says so: it becomes a zero return, and it can be submitted all the same.
From basis to receipt
Filing runs through five stages — Ledger, Access, Validate, Submit and Response. You can see where the return stands the whole way, and nothing is sent before you confirm.
- Open the VAT return. Ask the assistant to submit the VAT return, or open the Reports panel and select the MVA tab. Choose the Term and Year for the period you are filing.
- Prepare the basis. Press Prepare return. Tredco freezes the posted basis for the term, so the return you send is exactly the one you reviewed. If anything is missing — a transaction without a VAT code, a missing rate — it is collected under Fix these items before submitting.
- Correct what blocks it. If there are deviations, fix them in the ledger and press Refresh basis to build a new revision. When the list is empty, you are ready to submit.
- Sign in with ID-porten. Press Sign in with ID-porten. Whoever signs in must be able to represent the business to the Tax Administration. The access applies to this submission.
- Validate with the Tax Administration. Press Validate with the Tax Administration. The return is checked against the authority's rules before it is sent, so you catch deviations now and not afterwards.
- Review and submit. Press Review and submit. You see the period and net amount one last time; confirm with Submit to the Tax Administration, and the return goes to Altinn.
- Fetch the response. After submission, press Fetch response. Tredco fetches the receipt from Altinn under Response and payment, and you can open the receipt and see the payment that is due, with its due date.
You submit — always
As everywhere in Tredco, nothing sends itself. Both the validation with the Tax Administration and the submission itself require your confirmation, and require that the basis is unchanged from what you reviewed — change something in the ledger afterwards and you must prepare a new revision before you can submit. The status at the top tells you where the return stands: Not prepared, Needs correction, Validated, Submitted, Accepted.
If something stops along the way — the Tax Administration finds a deviation, or Altinn answers unclearly — Tredco tells you what happened and what to do next. If Altinn does not return a conclusive result, resubmission is locked on purpose until support has reconciled the attempt, so you never send the same return twice.
